SCI-FI?
SCI-FI? Are any of you guys fans of science fiction? I just love the genre. I suppose it stems from being a in the Sixties. The Gemini and Apollo programs filled my imagination with limitless possibilities. Limitless possibilities . (This could almost serve as a two-word definition of the Universe, don't you think?) Anyway, before I drone on endlessly, I am posting about science fiction because I want to find out if any of y'all are watching Westworld ( HBO ) or The Expanse (SyFi). I love them both. The writing, acting, and production values are top notch in my opinion. Do you have any use for Sci-Fi? Should we simply deal with the real, not wasting time on imagining the impossible? Blog on! |

Sfi-Fi is imagination, without imagination we would still be walking around dragging our knuckles! "Beam us up, Scotty, there's no intelligent life here!"

I've always been more of a fan of written science fiction, Ellison, Silverberg, Delaney, and more. Please don't let me be misunderstood.

We grew up at the same time and I've always enjoyed Sci-Fi stuff. Twilight Zone and Outer Limits were cool to watch and the 50s movies like Them were fun to watch. I don't watch much TV now and I need to catch up on Star Wars and Trek. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

One of the reasons I like The Expanse is the efforts made to keep things in the realm of physics. No making turns by steering left or right. Nope, you need directional thrusters to change your trajectory in a vacuum. Details like that impress me. Check it out. They have human Martians in it! It's in season 3 now, so you can binge your way thru episodes if you wish. The whole "proto-molecule" idea is very cool. blog on!

I like the genre, although I have to add, poorly done sci fi movies are quite...horrible to watch

Have you seen Shutter Island, or perhaps The Game? Both of those will fit the bill. blog on!

I barely signed up for Netflix a few weeks ago, so I am way behind on all that is streaming. But I just wanted to express my interest in sci-fi. .. I love the literature. .. I love how the authors peer into the future. Many authors look to the past for inspiration. Funny how history repeats itself. Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

Robinson Crusoe on mars was one of my favorites. I remember Richard Benjamin was in a movie called Westworld with Yul Brynner as the run a muck gunslinger. Is it the same premise as the old movie? A resort vacation concept based on fulfilling guests fantasys. If it is, do they have the guy in the golf cart cruising around? Using more than all the road!

I like the genre, although I have to add, poorly done sci fi movies are quite...horrible to watch However, there are some folks who love them for heir levels of awfulness. There was a show Mystery Science Theater IIRC, where the movie was ridiculed all the way through by commenters watching it in a mock-theater. And of course there is the late, great, Frank Zappa. He glorified horrible monster movies in his song Cheapnis. blog on!

(Heck, the only thing I watch that has commercials anymore is sports) As for history repeating, well look at the authors. They be humans! We are quite predictable, you know. blog on!

The new Westworld is a re-imagining of the '70s movie to which you refer. It totally blows that original plot away. There are a few Easter eggs thrown in as tribute to the original, which was pretty cool as well. I hope you get a chance to see it. blog on!

I do not know Electric Dreams, but I will look out for it upon your recommendation. The only Vonnegut I have read is Slaughterhouse Five. That was a trip for sure... blog on!

We are Westworld fans. I loved the original movie when I was a kid. Scared the hell out of me but in a good way. I would say every one in my home are sci-fi fans. We discuss possibilities of AI take overs, advancements to better our lives and the bot media infiltration. I wonder, if it gets out of hand, can we just unplug?
