Scary Post!

Have you been tested lately?

Smile, it's the second-best thing you can do with your lips!

Um....why does this seem to be a new thing? AIDS is all over the place people, this is nothing new. I'm not saying not to post it or anything, but seriously we should always be aware of this stuff whether someone posts it or not.

This is response to the anger being pointed at Dblhumpy in the original posted for which you have provided a link. I think the key to what Dblhumpy was saying is that this problem is not unique to Southeast Idaho. Avoiding this area of the state is not a good way to avoid HIV. Everyone in this lifestyle realizes the risks taken every time you play. It is up to the entire lifestyle to be safe, not just those living in Southeast Idaho. I was a bit insulted by the statement that maybe avoiding this area would be a good idea for the time being. I personally think it is a good idea to raise awareness. But to say to avoid SE Idaho is not raising awareness! Please Please Please ppl - be aware, be concerned, BE TESTED, but do not insult the other ppl in this group or in the lifestyle in general by making this a SE Idaho problem rather than a wide spread problem that it really is.

Just my opinion of which many not share.

Here is something everyone should know...

Anytime you go to your doctor and they draw blood for any reason, their laboratory will also test the drawn blood for sexually transmitted diseases. This is pretty standard nowadays.

For the games that we play, sometimes, someone pays. Play safely, test often. Donate blood for another way for free testing and more importantly, just to do the good deed. Good deeds done anonymously are the best deeds, indeed!!!

Ok so I am not from Idaho, but it is crazy to see the finger being pointed to Poky, just because it was in the news, in the newspaper, whatever the case being. Aids is worldwide, come on people, we are adults, damn it act like adults, this isn't High School, there is no need to point fingers, and say things like "Oh yuck stay way from, girls they are yucky" come on we are all supposed to be adults, act like it, and be responsible, Wear protection, be honest, and get tested, it is that easy!!!!! .......ok, there is my 2 cents, and I will be coming to see all my friends in Poky.... ....poocky

does the hospital really test for STDs when bloodwork is done, or does one have to ask for it? It would seem unlikely (and illegal) that they would do it without your permission (except for when you donate blood).

Lana, thank you for the research and information, and looking farther into this. Once again, you rock!! and when it comes to the facts, you are the best!!! ...poocky

Sorry guys, but I had to repost this from the original post in the Boise group. I guess when a subject that I agree with and disagree with rubs me, I have to give my 2cents, weather it is worth it or not!!!! Thats just me!!!

OK, I would like to give my 2cents here for a min, being on the outside of Idaho, and having friends in Pocky, Boise, surrounding areas, Nv, and Ut. The information in the posts are great, and Thank u all for the information, but some of the comments and some of the posts, not pointing in fingers cuz it is not the right thing to do!! I can see where people, are getting upset, or anger, it is not ignorance to the facts but the manner in which some of the posts where written, If someone is going to say "Hey there is Aids in Pocky stay away, that is offensive, not only to the Pocky group, but to Pocky period." Now from what I have seen, having gone to parties and Meet an Greets in Pocky, there are alot of people, single, and couples from the Boise area that go to parties and get together in Pocky, So I guess my question is are u going to point fingers at those people and say "Hey, they have been to get together in Pocky, stay away from them!" Come on, we are adults, lets act like it. Aids in a worldwide problem, not only in Idaho. Nevada is big on the Aids list of cases too!! Alot of those cases stem from the college students, and the gay community. This is a hot topic, but it should not be a hate topic, or dislike topic, or a topic where fingers need to be pointed. Lets be adult and think before u post on topic where people are going to be offended!!! Give facts and opinions, and lets not make this a war, or problem. There is enough of that in the world, we do not need it here too!!! So be smart, be honest, protect yourself, for yourself, your partner, and for your life!!!! and get tested on a regular bases, it is not like it is that hard, a few mins out of your day to get tested, could be the best thing u ever did for yourself!!!! It takes less time to get tested, them it is does to contract Aid, herpes, or any other STD!!!! ......Mrs. Poocky

We agree totally with the accurate posting of accurate information but when it comes to posting opinions on this topic that gets too touchy and really isn't a good thing. causes all kinds of hate and discontent plus has even historically been known to cause widespread panic. None of us would want to be guilty of doing that so I say let the fact posting continue and the rest of us without facts will enjoy being readers!

Ok so i read the post in the other group and well dude might not be playing with a full deck if he thinks staying away from Pocatello is gonna keep him safe... How many of us come from out of state or a different part of Idaho??? Who is not to say people may just not want to get tested in their own town and so they go else where, where no one knows them...

The bashing of Dblhumpy just kinda pisses me off...( wasn't this group was some asstards in another group )

poocky69... That is what I was trying to get across to them in my post in that other group to the west; but I see it did not penetrate. Hope your post will help; but I doubt it. I agree with you 100%.

UPDATE... the other groups' moderator has stepped in on the postings and has deleted most of the offending posts. He is taking control of the situation and I ask that none of our group escalate the tensions.
We all have friends on both sides of the state; let the cooler heads moderate and the rest of us continue to enjoy the lifestyle with each other safely.

More importantly; our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this terrible disease.

Well, it worked. I am the hated original poster from the west. My point was to get people aware that HIV/aids is growing and right here in Idaho. I MAY SHOULD NOT HAVE said not to go to Pokey. Hell, I partied there myself. For that mention I apologize.

ok so i totally agree with being tested....BUT i DO NOT agree with "Donating Blood" for a "Free Test".....Thats not what the blood dontation process is for....whether you know it or not but its not "Free" for whatever blood donation center you go to....Man hours and the equipment are not free....and i feel that when you go "Donate Blood" it should be because you want to SAVE A LIFE...not simply get a "Free Test" out of it.....i know here in poky you can go to the South Eastern Health Dept and get a test whether you can "Afford It" or not....they go by a "Sliding Scale" which means the amount you make they charge on that.... IF you can not afford to pay then you simply recive the service FREE of charge...all they ask is for a SMALL donation wether it be a dollar to five dollars IF you have it on you.... they are the ones you need to go to for "Free Testing" Not your local blood donation center..... I have said what i need to...i guess its time to hop off my soap box! Mrs. Happy

I give blood regularly...Because perhaps it will help someone I have never met. Which is for the peace of my soul, not for a pat on the back. I have done it for years. I am aware of the costs, the man hours. I have worked as a volunteer. Yes, there are centers for low cost testing. I brought it up more in an effort to get others to donate, not simply for the idea of a freebie.

No Peter... they can ownly test for those things that the overseeing Dr. or Practicioner has ordered. It would be a viotation of your rights and ethics if they did so.
In the late 80's I was a part of the State AIDS/HIV Advisory Council in Montana and this was one area that was really hammered on. You have to give your consent to be tested. All testing in Montana has to come with a set of eduction and follow-up after testing with the individual. If you want to know more about what your specific State does have as policy on testing for hospitals and clinics, you can request that from you public health department at the local or state level.

We all need to be better stewards of our health. Not only STDs Hiv but also exposure to second hand smoke.... (Oh geeze... don't even get me started!) But again correct information is essential in discussions like this. I spoke earlier of some of my experience here in Montana about HIV Policy and I have worked as a case manager for our local AIDS group in Montana after taking a nearly 10 year break.
I was was overwhelmed by the number of hetro women on my case load. Far different that 15-10 years before that. We really have to stop and remember the mechanics of sex and risk.
It is far more risky to be the flower than the pollinator. Riskier to be the bottom than the top. Riskier to be the women than the man. The percentage of infections from women to men is very small, where as the percentage of infections from men to women is greater. Women are the receptacle of the seed just as a bottom male is for their top.

I am not bashing the gay life style here as I am bi sexual have had a couple of LTR with women and have lots of gay male friends that I have lost to AIDS and are living currently with HIV. But if we are going to play with each other, it is so important to be honest about our choices. Men who are bi-sexual, I applaud you... exploring sexuality is a very healthy thing. But we all need to play safe IF we are choosing to engage in risky sex. I have very strong feeling about this and it is a sore spot for me right now with a man I am seeing. He feels I am like a high school phys. ed./ health teacher. lol But knowing who your partner plays with and the protections they take and will take with you is the key to your health.

I could go on about this much longer but won't. There is lots of info out there but the truth is the rates are going up in hetro sexual life styles. It is time to me honest with partners and with ourselves.

thanks for letting me post.

so this post still bothers me along with the other post....it only bothers me due to the fact that i work 15 hrs a day for a well known blood dontaion center here in pocatello....we take our work VERY seriously because we know that the blood is going to help someone in need of the blood....im sure u didnt mean any malice BUT it still comes across to me as you donate to get the "free" testing....I know u said u dont do it for the testing u do it cuz it might help someone....yes i might be reading into it more than i need to but collecting blood is my proffession...i take pride in the fact that in the past two years that i have been working for this company i have helped save countless lives.... THANK YOU for donating blood and helping us help you save lives

Sorry again. I started donating regularly a long time ago, when my dad almost died. He received over twenty pints of blood products, both whole and plasma, before they were able to safely stop the rupture in his stomach. I remember sitting in the ICU, watching as we prayed for his blood pressure to rise. I remember the lines going directly into his jugular vein. This was 18 years ago and I remember it to this day. So this is part of why I donate. And I was donating in the late seventies on and off, before there was a fear of HIV. It is my thanks to the anonymous folks who helped him. Plus, both my Grandmother and my Aunt were registered nurses. I have been aware of it's importance for most of my adult life. It is not a lark, but a part of my life. You have involved at it two years? Well, congradulations. Good for you!! But be gentle on thy soap box, for pride goeth before a fall. The colors of judgement are not only black and white. Judge me not, for all my story you do not know.

So im not "judging" you...i simply stated that as a person that works for a very well known blood dontation center it looked to me that you were saying if you cant afford to go to the health department...go donate blood because they screen for that type of std.
i also stated that i could be reading more into the post than what you intended just because of what i do for a living.... im not on a "soap box" so i know i will not lose my pride..but thanks for your concern....

I think we both perhaps misconstrued each other's post.
Blood donating is so very important. I really do thank you for doing what you do. I meant what I said about doing it for the good thing that it is. I do not depend on it as the only way to be tested, nor do I advocate it as such. Blood donation and keeping track of your health are both important issues, not to be taken lightly. I guess I should have said it in a differant manner. If that is the way it came across, then I apologize.
Bottom line though, get tested, keep tested, stay healthy because you are the world to the ones who love you.
